I’m considering letting her hatch so I need to know if she’ll make some mean babies or not
she’s a sweet heart lets me cuddle her and kiss her she sits on my lap follows me dust bathes where I’m sitting will scream if I leave her sits next to me and forges where I’m sitting and she hasn’t pecked me yet while she’s broody and let me put my hand under her once and even when I put my finger next to her mouth and she does the submitting shake but she does sometimes bite I think it’s stress related she was hormonal and a bit mean as a teenager and does fight you if you attack her or mess with her, she has bite me for no reason before again I think it’s stress or hormones I guess I’m worried her kids will have a mean teenage phase or will peck me too, thoughts? She’s sweet when she’s not stressed or provoked

Nope she hasn’t bit me yet while broody even when I put my finger next to her mouth but when she was a teenager she was very stressed and hormonal caused her to bite randomly, also if she’s stresse (as adult) , or when she feels attacked or provoked she’s sweet most of the time I mean she’s dust bathing while I give her head scratched rn, would you consider that aggressive or normal ? Thanks:p idk since most people chickens get scared instead of fighting something 10 times their size when they feel like they’re being attacked lol
Do you mean she has bit while broody? That's normal. She is trying to protect her nest! My girl is mean when broody also.

I'd say normal. Chickens all have their own personality, like we do. If she is sweet most of the time, it sounds like sometimes she just didn't want to be bothered, if that makes since.

Yeah I leave her alone when she seems bothered, she just has a strong personality i guess, thanks for the help :)

It sounds all pretty normal to me. She probably just likes her space sometimes. Nothing wrong with that. That doesn’t inherently mean she’s aggressive; clearly she likes you in general or wouldn’t let you touch her at all. She’d probably make a good mother/adoptive mother if she’s willing to get feisty sometimes.

True, I try to leave her alone when she’s bothered, I was also thinking her feistiness will make her a good mom :) it’s just some peoples chickens seem to never ever bite them so I was a little concerned

I think being broody is about the most aggressive stage of a hen's life cycle. If she is tolerant of you when touched, picked up, or when you need to check on/give/take eggs, I think she's got a gentle disposition towards humans overall. How is she with other chickens?

As a side note, I like to handle my broodies. Even with less tame hens, I've found they get used to repeated handling, and I often bring little bits of food and clean water in a cup to them in their nest (not tons of it, as I don't want her to poop in the nest). Eventually they seem to associate me with good things and bites/pecks lessen or stop entirely. It's fun to pamper them and means I can get closer to the eventual hatchlings. ❤️
