Chickens are very quick learners and I'll give an example right here:
My roo attacked some gardening gloves once until his spurs twisted off (my dad was wearing them and did not remove them after he attacked). A few months later I was wearing the same gloves and he attacked. I decided to show them what they were. I stuck out my hand and let him prepare to attack and did nothing. He attacked twice and never attacked again.

You will get no argument from me I have always been a believer that animals are way smarter than people give them credit for. And I am also a firm believer that animals have emotions they do have affection toward there people and each other. Any one who believes differently has never had a long term relationship with a pet. My chickens go crazy when they see me. And some want to be held and petted, I have one girl that refuses to let me put her down!
