agressive 5 month old silkie need help

hi thanks for all your suggestions. we did decide to put him down last weekend. our hens are pretty mad about that but it is way less worrying about winter and next he attacks. thx

He is only five months? My (now deceased) rooster, Henry VIII II, was aggressive. He terrorized my family for 3 years. Around 8 months, whenever he would square up, I would let him have one free hit before I’d chase and kick back, until he stopped coming back for more. It was a hassle, and I’d have to repeat the process every time I went outside for a month. But for the last 2 years he lived, he challenged me maybe 5 times. He still went after my family, but he wouldn’t touch me— he would run at me, and when I turned around he’d turn and peck at the ground. Henry VIII III, my current rooster, is about a year old, and hasn’t done anything beyond flapping his wings at me. It’s always the most handsome boys who are the meanest :hit

When I was a wee one, my first group of chicks were silkie and frizzle bantams. One of the frizzles ended up being a roo, and the meanest little bird you ever did encounter. He terrorized my family for however many years - constantly attacking everyone and everything.

Now that I am grown, I cannot understand why that behaviour was dealt with for so long! We culled a roo earlier this year that was just downright ugly to everyone - hens, us, the other stock (except the rabbits... he loved the rabbits). I did some work with him, hoping he'd chill out a bit... But the day he made me bleed was the last straw. I LOVE roos dearly... but I also take no gruff from any of my stock. So he had to go.

To the OP - I'm sorry you had to make that call, but I believe you did the right thing. I hope you are able to get a good boy for your girls now!
