Agressive Hen Attacking Me???????

hi - I need some help with a bad hen myself. We only have 2 hens both about 6 months old...The one that is being bad (Cocoa) is the larger of the 2 and the only 1 that is laying she is the same bread as the pic that Pele has on her profile the other is a leghorn (Snickers) and is the sweetest ever. Cocoa wasn't aggressive until about a month ago when she started laying. I have tired several things from holding her daily to just pushing her away. These chickens are my kids pets and they love to hold and play with them but now that Cocoa has decided to be mean we simply leave her in the coop. I should probably add that Cocoa has confused me from time to time of actually being a roo she crows and has about 1/2 inch spurs however once we started getting an egg daily we figured they were Cocoa's because they are a light brown and I know that the leghorn lays white eggs (had this breed before). Any suggestions??? I can post a picture of cocoa if that will help.

I have a RIR that had become really aggressive, It started about 2 weeks before she gave us her first egg. It lasted for about a week or so after that first egg. Now she is back to her old self, maybe they go through hormone changes when getting ready to lay for the first time.

We are hoping that she goes back to her old ways... she has now been laying for about a month now. We do not want to get rid of her

We have a dog as well that is about the same size as the chickens and she doesn't mess with the dog just us humans. My kids have found one thing she is afraid of so they can still get in the coop or go in the backyard if the chickens happen to out. They just have to pick up the swimming pool net and she runs...

I can pick up Cocoa if I can get behind her before she attacks. She is claim while holding her and will just lay in my lap but it's getting her that is the hard part.

Are you positive thats a hen. It looks rooish to me . The white hen could be a rock hen that is white. They lay brown eggs too. Gloria Jean

Hi all. I started this post over 3 months ago about my Australorp pullet who was biting me. She is still aggressive as ever. She bites hard and draws blood. Not only does she bite me, but she is horrible with the other girls, nearly ripping the comb off one of them the other day. My solution???

Pinless Peepers....She is unable to bite me or damage anybodys comb now! These things have saved the flock. They are peacefull and the meany, Pearl, she still gets to live here!!

I have a hen who I could not figure out - she laid an egg, then she crowed. Then she stopped laying eggs, and started being very roo-ish. Then she started laying eggs again. So now I know she's a hen, albeit a bit confused - but she is the one who would come after me, as well. I guess in a small flock, somebody has to protect the girls, and sometimes it's a manly hen! At one point I clipped her beak to stop her from drawing blood on one of the others. I guess this was all just a 'phase', because she is now about 10 months old, and is a normal hen (mostly) The aggression has stopped. All's well in Coop deVille!

We are pretty sure she is a hen and not a roo... the Leghorn just turned 6 months old and isn't near as mature so I'm pretty positive it isn't her laying the eggs.. Cocoa crows but she also makes the normal hen sounds. She isn't really aggressive towards Snickers just us but from time to time she will peck at her but most the time they are inseparable.

posting a picture of the other hen shortly
