By the way, here is my solution to the problem of aggressive roosters; an oak stick where ever I can apply it to his body ! He gets ONE chance, the second time he is stupid enough to attack me, he is headed straight to the crock pot.

I have one in the isolation cage waiting right now

The thought that a rooster will behave differently in someone else's yard is a concept that doesn't make any sense. It is just passing on the problem and knowing human nature..I really doubt most people say hey..I have a REALLY aggressive rooster.... which means..the people who will be taking him are not usually the type of home you would want anyway...cock fighting rings DO look for free ads for aggressive birds. This is a fact whether people think is or not. There are underground cock rings..secondly...many people do not have a problem with scooping up free annoying roosters and putting them in their own pot. He is a chicken, make some dumplings to go along with it and enjoy.

I was upfront with the man who took my rooster off my hands. I told him on the phone when he called me initially and showed him the hens when he came to take the rooster. I do have only six hens and realize that was part of the problem. The person who took the rooster has many more hens than I have and told me that the chickens free range all day. Maybe the new set up will be better for the rooster. More women, more exercise. Who could ask for anything more?

I can report that Angie the Rooster has departed this world and gone to wherever mean, aggressive rooster's go in the afterlife. I'm sad about having to kill him, but relieved that I can now go into the coop without a weapon! And it is amazing how much calmer the girls are. Thanks for everyone's advice and support!

It was necessary, part of chicken keeping is the culling out that alot of folks dread.
Who knows, maybe you will find one of those good boys to help keep the girls company.

Lester has been great with our girls and Cinnimon is learning. Cinnimon lets me cuddle him which is sweet.
Don't give up on the boys, there are gems out there.

The only cure for a mean roo is Freezer Camp. I"ve tried to tame them down but with all the advice I got from BYC'ers I had no success. If they don't go to freezer camp they are put in a cage out front with a sign, FREE ROOSTER. Always works for me.

If you like the rooster, there ARE solutions besides killing it.

I have free range chickens (and other birds). I have had numerous roosters (and one obnoxious turkey) that wanted to be aggressive to me or my children. There was a learning curve, but it didn't take long.

But first, a funny story about a rooster from H***:

As a kid, I remember one rooster that attacked my father -- and my father only (who was gentle and liked and loved by kids and animals alike, except this rooster). Every time my father stepped out of the house, this rooster flew at my dad, attacked and bruised his legs, and on and on this went for 6 months. (This was a rooster belonging to my step-sister. We were keeping their flock while they re-built their coop that stretched out for more than six months. My father tried to be patient, but one day . . .

That rooster attacked one too many times after a solid week of abuse and my fathers legs bloody and bruised. My father picked up a two-by-four and killed the rooster with one swift blow to the head. He threw the rooster's body out back behind the house. He had work to do in the yard and planned to bury the rooster when he was done. I rather expected this rooster to go in the freezer, but my dad was too disgusted with the rooster. (I'm sure he didn't want to eat my step sister's rooster either -- sort of a "conflict of interest".)

After dinner, my dad went out back to get the rooster and bury him. The rooster was laying where my father tossed him a now-dried bloody mess. My father bent down to pick him up . . . and the rooster attacked him again. His head came off at this point.

The point of the story is, I *understand* and have understood roosters from H*** for many years. I also now know a solution that has NEVER failed me. I have had friends, knowing that I don't butcher my chickens nor do I eat them, bring me their roosters from H*** where they have been "rehabilitated". I DO NOT accept roosters anymore, so don't ask.

Anyway, if you want to try my technique that WORKS, here is a link to a post where I described it.

It's silly how simple it is. It doesn't require much time either. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=6305036#p6305036

Good
luck and let me know how it works for you!
