Seriously fighting the mother instinct here. My 5 week olds have been enjoying a lovely day in the yard, and now one of our famous NC spring thunderstorms has dropped and I want to go out there and scoop them all up and throw them in the coop! Half of them are in there already, they know how to use the ramp to get in and out, and the rest are huddled safely under the coop (it's 8x10, lots of shelter underneath) but it still doesn't stop the mothering instinct. At least none of them are out standing in it!

You're a very good chicken mommy!

You are doing better than I would! Ours are scheduled to go out this week....I'd be out there with an umbrella!

I confess, I just got back in from checking on them. All but 4 were in the coop, and as soon as I got out there the rain let up. The 4 under the coop were all dry and fine. If my husband knew about this I think his eyes would roll back in his head so far they would get stuck.

You make me feel so much better, mine went out for the morning, but I am not confident enough to leave them out all night. I just finished the coop Sunday, the run is safe enough, but I am finishing the electric fence around the perimter. (my sister calls it Fort Henny)
Since I get home from work around 9:30 I thought they should be o.k. THEN I looked at the weather. So they are back on our screened porch in the giant cardboard pen I made.

Calling for severe thunderstorms, hail etc. Will I ever feel they are old enough???
