What you probably see is more like a toadstool. Not good to eat, just kick them over...or pick them and throw them out. Just a moisture thing...they will grow just about anywhere where there is moisture and a little darkness!

Years ago, I was buying seeds through the mail, and the company offered a block of mushroom spore. Just to try it, I went a head and ordered it. We put together a mushroom bed of composted pecan leaves and horse manure. We crumbled the block of spore, (it really was more like a block of dry peat moss) into the bed. Then we covered it with an old mortar box. Within days, we had some great looking mushrooms, but everyone was afraid to eat them. We threw them to the chickens, and they ate them. If the chickens won't eat them, don't mess with them.
