We bought it just because of what you said, Gretchen, so no one could build that close to us. Fall is just gorgeous here and if it wasn't so much work to keep the jungle at bay, I dont think we'd ever leave here. And we may not anyway in this economy.

I'd love for someone to rebuild that porch roof with proper pitch, but that would be lots of extra $$$. Sigh. Maybe we'll uncover the deceased former owner's secret stash of cash, huh?

Did you see that one article somewhere out there in web land where a lady after, was it 7 years? walked a beach every Sunday with a metal detector for something like 6 hours and she just found treasure worth a fair market value of something like 412,000 but because of the economy the museums can't buy it from her. So she is allowed to take it to an auction house where it will most likely sell for more.

Time to invest in a metal detector, I'd say.

Hi was only 90 but humidity AFTER it stopped raining was 68%,,which for the desert is not nice! I like your outside office better than mine!

We actually do have a metal detector. This property had so many old burn piles that we always find aluminum cans and foil and bullet casings. Wish something good would show up!

The idea of having a metal roofing sounds great! I noticed some of the houses in the city has them even it is very expensive to do. However neighbors would complain a big stink about those green and rust red roofings unattractive and looks like fancy horse barns!!! They can just shove it up their butt and believe me, metal lasts longer than shingles and the amount of time to install is about half to a third less than shingle work.

The newest shingling part is the rubberized shingles that has been recycled from tires, belts, etc. However your roof would need the capacity to hold that sheer amount of weight.
I saw that on This Old House and I thought it was awesome! It was expensive but lasts a very long time. It is also UV protected too.

I hate to see the taxes on these country homes. I have a 900 sq ft house on a 130 x ? lot and taxes are $1750 a year with $495.00 monthly mortgage. In a fancy neighborhood that has been popular in the 50's as the elite folks living here but not anymore but still well kept up.

The two houses on the same street as us, are priced at 68,000 and 56,000 still on the market for a week and half and three mos individually.

We were lucky to have the house but would love to have it in the country. We got a good deal on our house for $48 thousand and it was appraised for $55 thousand. We still got alot of work to do inside but the outside is slowly going this year.
