Ahhhh! Chicks from a feed store!!

I would love to go through a reputable breeder. In fact I really am glad you mentioned it because in my anger I totally over looked that option. I am not sure how to look up breeders in my area though. Any suggestions on how to find breeders?

We found ours on Craig's list.

Yes Krista, we'll have to share local breeders names when we find them.

That would be awesome!! I have a friend that is in 4H so I will have to ask him if he knows anyone. Heck he even tried to sell me some of his birds once! (He is the sweetest little guy you'll ever meet).

I came across your thread while "checking just one more time" before I head for bed. I'll read the whole thing tomorrow, but thought you might like to check out the Washingtonians thread. I'm sure someone on there will be able to point you in the direction of a good breeder that is at least somewhat close to you. It's been busy here and it's a very busy thread so I haven't been keeping up with it lately, but they're a really nice bunch of people--like most of byc

Good luck on your search.

I ordered my 9 girls from MPC. Received them on Tuesday. My buff silkie died the next day after a close call on arrival but eating and drinking all night.

Everyone else doing really well, but then today I've got a little barred rock that hasn't much energy left.

My 4 standards were vaccinated. They don't offer the vaccine for the bantams. They are on medicated feed.

I wasn't comfortable with the way the feed stores treated the chicks around here. Wanted a few different breeds for starters. Since then though, I've found a great little place (Eugene Backyard Farmer) who takes wonderful care of his chicks, is very knowledgeable and helpful.
Wish I'd found him before I ordered because I don't know what is going on with my girls.

I do have to say this for MPC...if you call them, the ladies there will take any amount of time you need to help you with your order, your questions and your problems. Ask them about the sterile environment the chicks are hatched in!
