Hi, I’ve got a chicken who is definitely egg bound, she’s on day 2, she hasn’t laid, but there’s definitely an egg in there, she’s been pooping fine, she’s about 2 years old,
She’s eating fine she’s had some Rennie, a little Greek yogurt, some mealworms, apple, and a bit of normal food, she isn’t walking but still looks relatively healthy given her condition, we’ve been giving her Epsom salt baths and we’ve lubricated the vent, we’ve tried moving her legs to get her moving but don’t know what else to do, any suggestions?

You have done a good job.

Some additional things that you can do:

1) provide her with some fine oyster shell on the side or give her calcium tablet.

2) give her gentle abdominal massage, but it must be done carefully to avoid breaking the egg internally, preferably right after the epsom salt bath:
  • Hold her upright, tail slightly downward.
  • Place your fingers on the lower abdomen
  • Use very gentle downward strokes toward the vent.
  • Massage in small circular motions, then sweep downward.
  • Do this for 5–10 minutes
3) make sure she has access to plenty of clean water.

The best thing for a chicken with a stuck egg or lash egg is to give a dose of calcium citrate with vitamin d 300-600 mg orally. Calcium carbonate or Tums may work also. Just pop the tablet into the beak to swallow.
