When my oldest DS was younger and lost a tooth at his Omi's (Grandma) she forgot about the whole tooth fairy thing and he was upset in the morning b/c the tooth fairy didn't come.... so she had to think fast and distracted him while flipping through the blankets and pillows while she dropped a $10 bill behind the bed. That was the smallest she had in her purse. So then she told him to look behind the bed and see if it fell there... low and behold... he must've knocked it down there when he was tossin' and turnin' in his sleep!

After then he wanted to know why the tooth fairy wasn't giving him $10 for teeth.

The older kids play "tooth fairy" now. I forget too much... I'm a lame tooth fairy!

Im almost 18 and I didnt lose my last baby tooth til last year! lol. I just didnt want to let it go.

My dad's friend, who is in his 40's, sneezed a few years ago and one of his teeth went flying across the room! We never did find it.

My son got his teeth in a different order. One bottom, one top, other bottom, other top. But three of them came in within days of each other. He was almost a year old. He's lost just the one bottom one and the other one has been "a little wiggly" for over a month. He had seen the dentist just a few weeks before losing that tooth. She said none were ready yet. He got them late, he'll lose them late. Well, she was wrong about that first one.
I had a student a few years ago was eating lunch with some buddies in my room. He bit into a chicken sandwich and lost his tooth. Really lost it. We never found it. We figured he'd swallowed it. He was almost 8 and took it in stride.
I had an aunt that used to tease me about tying a string to my loose teeth and the other end to of the string to a door knob. I was terrified. I made the mistake of telling my son this story. Out of the blue this aunt called last week and said she was travelling in the area with some friends. I had to tell poor DS his wiggly tooth was safe from crazy Aunt Bea!

As a dentist, I can tell you that everyone is different.

As a rule, girls loose their baby teeth before boys.

Usually lowers first, then the matching uppers.

Sometimes when we pull a deciduous tooth at the office it will be lost (The kid takes it out, plays with it and drops it) or before we can get it into a tooth carrier for the tooth fairy. That's when we pull out our pack of Tic Tacs. We hand the kid a white Tic Tac, tell him to put it in the tooth carrier and that the tooth fairy needs glasses so he/she won't know the difference. That always settles them.
