Hi! New member intro here, you can call me Les. :frow

I don't yet have chickens, have dreamt of them for years but now am in the prepping stages to getting them! Planned date to come home is the 27th of May 🥹 Tentatively the breeds I want to bring home are easter eggers, bielefelders, cream legbar, mottled houdan, welbar, starlight green egger, midnight majesty marans and possible a lav orpington. I am hoping for a rainbow basket come the holiday season but also sliding scale of cute is a factor (these are pets, not serious business for me).

We are working on building a run, which is a bit of a challenger for newbies but I am winging it (pun intended) with some help from the internet and my girlfriend. I share a home with her, my best friend and my mom. We have a couple of scrappy little chihuahuas (love/hate), my perfect angel heeler mix, and three cats (1 jerk, 1 outside boi, 1 cuddlebug).

Any desert chicken keeping tips are welcome. I have accumulated quite a list of random knowledge and always love more.

Thanks! -Les

Welcome, to BYC. You should have a nice assortment of colored eggs when they start laying.
Just curious,, what portion of Sonoran Desert are you Arizona, or Mexico??
You should join the Arizona State thread, and ask all the hot weather questions you may have.

WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and :welcome

Hello Les and welcome to BYC! :frow

Wow, that's a nice assortment of breeds you wish to keep! Some of them may not be desert hardy, I'm in New Mexico and it gets pretty roasting out here. Do your research on breeds, use lots of big fans in the coop, big ventilation in the eaves of your coop and have them roost low to the floor where it's cooler. Best wishes!
