Air bubble in neck, please help

Hi. I noticed that my son’s three month old chicken was lethargic yesterday. Today I held it and there is an enormous air pocket in its neck. Can anyone please advise? Thank you!

Also, the chick is a Frizzle so it’s didficult to see a bulge. I will check again in the morning. It just had a bloody poop, but I don’t know if it’s intestinal lining or a concern.View attachment 1528147
I'm sorry for your loss.
If I saw that in my brooder or from just one of my chicks, I would start all the chicks on Corid, ASAP. Corid is mild and won't hurt them.
Dosage is 1 1/2 teaspoons Corid powder or 2 teaspoons of 9.6% Corid liquid per gallon of water.
Give for 5-7 days - make sure this is the ONLY water available during that time period. Mix a fresh batch at least once a day.
Don't mix ACV or anything else in with the Corid water.

For "free choice" grit, just spread some in their brooder or put some in a small container, they will get what they want/need.

Watch to see that they are eating their chick starter and drinking well.

Also, I had emptied the chick’s crop a little and massaged her. Is it possible that I dislodged something like a piece of glass that ended up killing her? The chicks are out in an old carport. I always search the floor to see if I can find nail or glass. I’m wondering if the chick ate something sharp. Or conversely, if I massaged her too hard although it wasn’t that hard but it’s my fear that I contributed to her passing because I did that.
Stop there!
You did not kill her by massaging her crop! Even if it was vigorous, unless a gigantic honking shank of glass tore through her chest and impaled you!

Yes, do all you can to keep their surrounding clean and free of dangerous debris.
Chickens will eat anything. Plastic, glass, metal, heck one a few months back on here, a small chick ate a foot long length of nylon rope!

Chicks are fragile. You can’t expect with a batch of littles as big as you have to have zero loses.

And no to the Apple cider vinegar, just corid and fresh water mixed new each day.

I have one flock of two to three month old chicks, one flock of four to five month olds and one flock of eleven month olds.
The Corid won't hurt them, but you may want to treat just the birds that this sick one was with. The 11month olds, if they have been on your property for a while should have resistance to the Coccidia strains that you have. It's very possible for any bird to have any overload given the right conditions (hot wet weather, illness/compromised immune system, parasite infestation, new bird introductions, etc.).

I am so sorry for your loss. I agree it was a rapid onset of coccidiosis and that you should treat the remaining members of her flock. You did not kill this chick. With poop that bloody, I feel confident it was coccidiosis. However, be very careful when massaging their crops, as fluid can aspirate into their lungs.

We just had a second one die this morning. I’m treating with Corid, and grit, but not sure what else to do.
