My turkey has an air bubble under his wing? Everything I have read has said to pop it with a needle. What do you think?

Take a look at this thread here:

We had this happen recently, to be honest ours have not gone away and it is much past the date that a vet told me it would take to clear up. The air bubble is trapped under the skin as a result of a rupture to the air sacs, it's called Subcutaneous Emphysema, and occurs due to an injury of some sort (fighting amonst other birds for example). Some say it will heal on it's own, others say to pop it. IF you choose to rupture the air bubble with a needle or other instrument please take care to clean the area first and ensure that whatever you use is STERILE. Popping it can result an introducing bacteria into the bird which is not good. Keep in mind, this provides only temporary relief as mine refilled within minutes. Some say that if the pressure is too great that releasing the trapped air is helpful and prevents further injury to the air sac.

I may honestly pop mine again as I have had no luck leaving them to their own devices.

We ended up popping it with a sterile needle after sterilizing the site. It seems ok now. :/

Did it refill with air? I think I am going to do mine again. I spoke with a vet on a Facebook page designed for people to ask vets questions about poultry (since few exist) and she said it should go away on it's own. That had to have been around a month ago now though
