I know the standard advice for shipped eggs is to let them rest for 24 hours before incubating, but what is actually the reason for this? If the air cells are misshapen or loose because of shipping damage can they actually improve during this 24 hour resting period?

I've been through quite a few ebay eggs now and the ones with loose or saddle air cells never change after leaving them for up to 24 hours! Has anyone had any success with damaged air cells improving before being set?

No experience with shipped eggs here...

But I think you also don't turn during the first few days of incubation which might help to actually "set" the cell into position. And also be sure to incubate upright and if the cell is poor sometimes even hatching upright.

Sorry, I know I didn't REALLY help with your question! :smack

Thanks for replying anyway! I forgot about not turning eggs with damage cells in the beginning. I have six eggs right now that had one floating air bubble each when candled on arrival.

I always toss eggs with multiple air bubbles because they are scrambled and have never had any success incubating them. But these seem to only have one air bubble that i 'm hoping MIGHT somehow reattach. I 've got them in an egg carton in the bator but I don't have much hope for them luckily there were also 6 that had normal air cells.

Did you put the egg pointy side up or down? I’m having the same problem.
How long do you keep them like that without turning?

I have never noticed the bad air cells reattach. :hu

I let my shipped eggs sit for a bit, usually not for a full 24 hours though.

I then incubate upright and I DO rotate even from the beginning, but only very, very gently.

Rotating is so important in healthy egg development.

Yes i've never had any luck getting air cells to reattach either. Some people must have...surely...? Or are all eggs with detached air cells no hopers?
