I couldn’t find any info on this, but I was wondering if the air sac still gets bigger in an egg where the chick has died. Everything I found regarding the egg sac just said that it’s increased due to evaporation. I understand that, but I’d like to know how the development of the chick impacts it as well.

Here’s the story: my incubator had an issue and the temperature spiked to 108F after being down at 94F. Poor chickies. This was just after day 14 when I had candled them. I did a quick candle of one after the issue and saw some movement so I’ve been just continuing the incubation as if nothing happened.

Today is day 18 and I’m going to candle them again. Since I had marked the air sac on the outside of each egg, I was wondering if there would still be a change in the size if the chick had died. If not, then I could just compare it to the day 14 mark and I would know for sure.

Has anyone had any experience with this?

It will keep growing. There's not really any way of knowing unless you can see decomposing veins or something. Sorry about your temp spike. Good luck! I hope you get some babies.

Darn! But I though that might be the case. Thanks for clarifying!
