Air Under Skin?

I have a 3 month old hen that went quite lame. When I picked her up she had a HUGE bubble extending from her wing-pit to under her thigh. I pierced it with a sterile hypodermic and let all the air out. There was no fluid or heat, just air. No injury. Anyone ever seen this before??

I've seen it in people, but not in chickens. Keep us updated... Has the bird suffered any trauma?
