So today is day 10 of incubation. I can find the air sac in all of the eggs except 1. The chick inside of the egg is still alive and moving around. Will it survive? Will the air sac form eventually? If it survives, will I need to help it hatch?

I looked for it all over, but maybe missed it... I'm hoping it will do okay

With quail it could also be the thickness of the shell. I have a Button quail female who lays the thickest eggshelled eggs and I cannot see into them very well at all. I can only make out the air cell because I know that's where it should be - I can't actually make out how big it is or if a chick has pipped into it yet (yes, I candle way too much ). I've never had a problem with my other girls eggs - I always know exactly what's going on, but this girls eggs are crazy dark and it's very frustrating for one as nosy as me!

XD don't feel bad... My second batch and I still find myself candeling every two days

The chick ended up dying in egg... I opened it See see if the air sac was somewhere else. There wasn't one. All the rest had slightly larger air sac. Is there any reason why this one didn't form an air sac? Wish I had kept a closer eye and tried to pip for it...

That is extremely odd. I've read that chicks that pip in the wrong place (like the opposite end of the egg) have a good chance of making it out on their own, so maybe the baby wasn't strong enough to pip for some reason. Sometimes weird things just happen - don't beat yourself up.

I've had a Button embryo stop developing, but it lived for a whole week before finally dying. I kept thinking, if it's still wriggling (and boy, could it dance) surely it will get bigger, but it never did. I was sad when I candled it (like I said, I candle way too much) and found it had stopped moving. Just one of those weird things.

Enjoy your babies that made it. Aren't they gorgeous?
