Alabama.. I live in NE Alabama right on the GA state line and about 12 miles from the TN State line as well. Chattanooga is my shopping hub about 20 miles away. There are lots of folks with chickens around me but most are Game Birds. I would love to trade eggs and whatever with some other GA/TN/AL people.

I am new to this and decided to start off with some RIR's. I too am in the Lower East side of Alabama.

These first three I bought from Sadie's Flea Market. The woman that has the permanent stand there. She was nice and helpful seeing as I am just starting out with this. Where do you get yours from and what type? I am addicted to this now. I am thinking about giving them a fenced area of their own and trying a game type bird for free ranging. Any ideas?

Edbama, I got mine from McMurray and then I got a non hatchery Roo from another source. I just hatched some eggs from a breeder who is a Master Breeder of RIR. Bought them at a show in Lake City Fl. I have Dominiques and Blue Orpingtons also. The only Bantams I have are silkies which am raising for Show quality standards to Show. Chickens are a whole lot of fun but the feed has got quite expensive here lately. I use to buy mine in Slocomb but have been buying at the Piggly Wiggly in Dothan of late since it is convenient when I am in town.

I am trying not to buy anything in Dothan with that 10% sales tax. Doesn't Piggly wiggly have a 10% store charge? I know when they have the Ribeye sales they add an extra fee on top of the taxes. I also go to the Graceville feed store.

They don't charge any tax for the Chicken Feed. How much is the feed per bag in Graceville? What brand? I have been using HMC which I don't like but the other feed had gone so high I could hardly afford it. I used to buy FRM at Slocomb when it was in the 7 dollar range.
