ALABAMA!!

x2 And they are usually the ones the hawk takes first (in my experience). they draw you in for extra attention and then doesn't end well once you are a little attached to them.

Jadzia is that way. A hawk got her, but she lived. She's still around and I worry about her all the time

She's always had really pale legs and crooked toes, but she lays well and doesn't seem to be bothered by anything. She lived through a hawk attack. She's stronger than she looks. Often I think "This is it, she's looking worse and worse" but she just keeps on trucking. Poor inbred looking birdie.

I may be over reacting a bit (never tell my hubby I said that). But one of my spring chicks just looks sad! She is always alone, she talks nonstop, she sleeps in a nest box instead of on the roost with her siblings,When I am chilling outside I will pick her up and she will sit in my lap as long as I let her(that is odd for my bunch,a quick scratch on the head is usually all I get to do). Otherwise she just wonders around all by herself. She eats, but not as much as everyone else, she drinks, her poops are normal.I'm sure chickens don't get sad,she is probably sick with something,But what could it be.I have been giving her first pick of the veggies and treats. She will just get a few bites and she is done. Please don't be shy to tell me if you think I am over reacting,I would be glad if that were the case.

My sad lil girl died today. She didn't come out of the coop this morning, I had to go to work but hubby was off today so I ask him to care for her.He brought her in the house and made her a nest in a box of straw. He cooked her an egg, which she barely pecked at, he said she never even tried to get out but she looked bright and looked around then she just died.

Try and either send her for autopsy or do so yourself. I find closure in it and comfort knowing it's not contagious.

I am so sorry you lost a girl. It's weird to think, hey they are just farm animals, but in a way, they become friends and family. My little girl lost one a few months back and she still cries every once and awhile because it bothers her she lost Teeny. Now she feels like a farming failure because she didn't fix her. Hopefully, it helps that your husband tried to tend to her. That was sweet of him.
