If he is gone and there are no obvious attack sites, it was likely a fox or coyote. They will grab a bird and run off with it in their mouth, leaving few, if any feathers. Sorry.

I bet it was a fox. This sucks because now I don't need to the the hens out and they love it so much!If he is gone and there are no obvious attack sites, it was likely a fox or coyote. They will grab a bird and run off with it in their mouth, leaving few, if any feathers. Sorry.
I just meet up with Orps when she was in town today and gave her what few Quail eggs i had for her to hatch and gave her 4 little Silkie chicks. (Partridge I think)

It's getting like this in my area. A logging company is destroying the woods just up the road and pushing the coyotes, bobcats, and every type of predator in the state towards us. The only good thing they've done is get a pack of wild dogs killed that have been terrorizing the neighborhoods around me. They killed off the small population of hogs (non-destructive) that have been arouses for years. They're running the opossums and raccoons right at us. They just don't care about what they're doing as long as they turn a profit. Oh, I almost forgot about the dieing fox population and the invading red tail hawks.A lot of my friends are reporting coyotes and even hogs coming closer to homes. A friend lost some hens to a coyote around dinner time some days ago.. so it wasn't even dark yet.![]()
They're getting closer and closer.
