I spent many a summer in Lineville at my grandmother's. Remembering her hen and chicks roaming her yard is one of the memories that made me want chicks of my own. I have a small mixed flock of nine and I really enjoy them so much.
 
Hello all,
New to BYC and to chickens. We've had our RIR hens for 11 days now. They are about 10-13 weeks old I've already learned a lot from this site and found y'all are a great resource.

Question: I live in Mobile County and am wondering if there are any livestock shows, fairs, and farmer markets (not the chain) in the surrounding areas. We also starter canning and would like to find fruits and veggies straight from the producer, to off set what we don't produce in our garden.

Hey, welcome, I'm in Mobile myself - got the winter gardens going and intend to can, we'll see. My yard is 'free range', so fencing out the chickens has been an ongoing issue. Many flowers are also tasty . . .

There's several established vegetable stands in Mobile that are supposed to be local grown produce (2 on Old Shell Road); also at the Flea Market on Schillinger Rd. on weekends.

We have a nice farmers market in downtown Pensacola on Saturdays. It's on paradox street. Only an hours drive from you. We have a poultry show coming up in march but I'm not sure of location yet.
 
We visit the produce market at the flea market. They have better prices than any one.

Chickbythebay: please keep me posted on the poultry show if you can.
