I have baby chicks that need heat.

OMG.
The stress is killing me.

Please pray we dont loose power. Not only do I need to keep ten chicks warm but my human kids and me as well!

Fear not, dear KFrodo, Those chicks can cuddle up together in a small box and will be fine. You may want to keep them where ever you and the family are if you have a heat source (fire, propane heater, etc.) but if you can just heat water and put a hot water bottle or a jar of hot water in with them they will huddle around it. Like I said before, they're tougher than people think.

I've got a nice fire in the fireplace and I already have the dog crate ready to go out to the barn and scoop them up and bring them in. I would just stress a lot less if we didnt loose power.

Thanks for the hot water in a jar idea. I have tons of jars and lids in the laundry room.

Where I am kids are stuck at the school for the night. My husband was stuck in Hoover, but just made it home finally walking in the last few miles. I had to ditch my van on the side of the road and walk my 4 kids 2 miles home. Crazy day but at least I didn't get stuck on an interstate and leave my kids at a school overnight!

Ladies and gentlemen, we are coming home! We don't know how just yet, but come income tax we're going to try to get back to Montgomery! I'm so excited that I'll get to see my chickens again. In fact, I'm excited to get to see all my pets and family again.

Florida is nice and all, it's just not Alabama.

I've got a lot to do when I get back and one of the things on my list is to get a new roo. I think I told yall that dad finally sold Red the demonic roo. Trippy Chicken (my HRIR roo) hasn't been able to do the job since the older girls hate him. Any ideas on how to get Trippy back into shape would be appreciated. Dad has to feed him separate from the hens or else he doesn't eat and even then he doesn't get much. Dad isn't in the greatest shape right now, so he hasn't been able to take Trippy out of the pen. Mom tells me that he's losing weight (though not very quickly) and we're worrying about him. Thankfully they gave up picking on him since he has Henrietta and our female mallard around him constantly. I already know I'm going to have to get Trippy his own girls, which won't be a problem since dad want's more hens anyway.

I really look forward to coming home soon!
