Wisher.. How was your hatching? Did the chicks you put in lock down hatch? Did the lady get enough chicks to do her petting show?

I set about 60 eggs for her. I locked down 49. I sent 37 chicks home with her!! All in all, the power failure had little effect on the local eggs. Most of the ones that didn't hatch had either not been fertile, or quit before the power went out.

I haven't asked her how it went, but I will.

I have shipped eggs going into lockdown tonight, but I'm not stressed about them. I will take what I get at hatch and blame the non hatched on the PO!

(Just kidding about the PO, they were good to this batch.)

Hey everyone. Sorry I keep appearing and then disappearing again. I've had a lot to deal with for the past few weeks and the past few days took the cake.

The only thing I feel like talking about (then again, not even really that) is that just a few days after Smudge's birthday she passed away in her sleep in her favorite spot. There aren't many people that can say that their cat lived a healthy life and passed at the age of 16.

A lot of stories about fox attacks on chickens are passing through my news feed on facebook, so to help out with that I'm trying to write a post for my not yet started blog on the subject of foxes and chicken keeping. The main focus is going to be how to set a healthy relationship with resident foxes to keep them from killing chickens and keeping the foxes from getting killed by people that see them as nothing more than pests. I need a little help getting some info together on predator proofing and ways to keep foxes away without completely running them off. Any help y'all can give would be appreciated.

We are probably heading home tomorrow, if all goes well.
