ALABAMA!!

I have been thinking about getting a roo, however I am a bit nervous about introducing another chicken to the flock. I have 4 in the run now and am raising 3 babies (well they are 2 months) My goal is to live off the land as much as possible. Any advice on this? Also what breed would be best to introduce and how old should he be?

Also has anyone else had issues with their gardens this year? Mine started strong but ended poorly. Nothing grew as large as it normally does except the weeds and morning glories

I did potted garden this year because I didn't want to deal with tons of weeding. Have been watering 1 or 2 times a day. Most of them are still doing well.
And my morning glories as taken over this year in my yard. Been pulling them out like weeds.

As for chicken. I would get a breed that you already have to go with some of your hens.

i wondered because the barred rocks are so much bigger then my games and I don't know how big my EE will be in comparison to the barred rocks.

I thought about doing a potted garden but my thought got away with me. Every spring I go into stuck in the house overload

so i always plant more then I should. This year my goal is to get all 7 hens threw the winter, I fear that this winter is going to be a harsh one

Our garden did the same. Too hot and not enough rain. Plus, it seems like the vine bors were out in force this year. The tomato worms are currently trying to kill off dad's peppers.

I noticed that this year we didn't have nearly as many bees. Normally I live scared while in the garden because i am allergic but this year i didn't notice many. allot of my gourds didn't do well at all, maybe one per vine when we normally get at least 5. planted pumpkins and the rabbits got those so I missed those.
I am a huge Halloween decorator and this year looks like i will have to buy mine.

Get something that's 2 months old and put it with the others, the younger ones mingle a lot easier.

EEs in my experience are only a bit smaller than plymouth rocks. Nothing to worry about.

Get a cockerel, or two, and they will be fine. The girls may show him who's boss at first, but will be happier to have the boys around. I have a couple of really pretty Silver Campine cull cockerels that I will give you if you will come pick them up. They had too much white on them for breeding, but they sure are pretty.

This is not my pic, or my bird, but mine look similar. Mine hav more barring on the rear half of their body and one is hen feathered and the other has saddle feathers, but like I said, they are pretty boys and are used to each other.

I do have a white silkie roo(pet quailty) for sale $10 and I'm heading up to Florence this weekend but really don't think silkies are something you might be looking for.
