Her back, between her wings.


Rinsed with water.. wing is missing a whole lot of feathers.


After iodine rinse. You can see her entire breast/skin cavity through that hole..

She has another puncture wound in the underside of her wing, but it is small.

I know this sounds strange, but you could fill that hole with Preparation H. I was told that by a vet when a dog had a deep gouge gone out of it's hind quarter. The med is not toxic (to dogs, I would research it's affect on chickens before I used it) and it will help to close the hole, soothe the inflammation, and speed healing without closing the outside. Might be worth a shot.

She walked very gingerly around the kitchen this morning. Put up a fight when I cleaned her, so she's feeling a bit better.


Fairly swollen, but clean. It's closed up a little bit. Iodine & white chickens don't mix..

She doesn't mind her new home TOO much. Drank some of her electrolytes and ate some Layena.


Decided not to mess with it aside from cleaning 2-3 times a day and ointment. It's swollen and not gaping as much. Found a few more puncture marks on her wing and it's REALLY bruised and swollen, so I try not to lift her wing too much. She can flap it just fine, thank goodness.

Too good to be true..

She's getting antsy. She's been picking at the wound on her back and has been slinging blood. Then hopped out and came walking into the living room. Durn stubborn chickens. I put some tape on her back, not sure it'll stay. I -think- she wants to go outside, back to the coop.. likely to lay an egg, she an egg a day gal. Coop is less than clean though, since we do deep litter.

Not sure what to do with her now

Well, cleaned her wounds again, liberally applied Neosporin and lightly ducttaped her. Let her out in the coop for a minute and she RAN up the chicken ladder, straight to her nestbox. Girl had to go! She's layed her egg and she's in the coop still, thank goodness my flock has no real pecking order and they don't peck at eachother AT ALL. Will get her back inside in a little bit, after she eats and drinks from her familiar feeders.

She's being a handful, so that's good. She was roaming the kitchen looking for snacks.. Amazing how quick these gals bounce back.

They did learn a very valuable lesson. This morning they heard a hawk and they ran as fast as they could, back to the coop.

My camera doesn't like that she's white haha. Even with editting she's still glowing.

Anyway, she's been protesting the dog crate loudly. I let her stretch her legs for a bit this morning. Ofcourse miss Dummy decided to go straight for the open area of the yard without tree cover. You'd think she'd learn. Stayed with her for about half an hour, until she decided to go to the nest boxes. The tape yanks a bit on her feathers when she tried to get in the box, so I had to help, which she doesn't like.

She stayed in there for about an hour, but I had to remove her.. the other girls were getting fed up with her hogging the box and where starting to force her out.

She ate a whole scrambled egg with some Culturelle (probiotic powder)

I just heard an egg song from the kitchen, but she laid an egg about 17 hours ago, so it seems a little too early for that. But who knows? She IS a white rock.

She's a handful, but I know she can't wait to get back to the flock. Just don't want to risk flies getting in there.
