ALABAMA!!

I've got my tub!

Last year I used a cardboard box as a brooder, wanted something a little more durable/reuable... so 50 gallon Sterilite tub to the rescue. Next time... if there is a next time.. I should *really* consider how I'm gonna get it home before I buy it though

It took me 5 minutes to figure out how to get the tub AND my son home. I could not fit that thing in my car.. but, I managed.

Now to make a screen top.. and find a spot to pace back and forth as I wait for mid February.

Howdy from dale county. I have some 10 week old buff brahmas. I wish i would have started this hobby sooner.
That just means you'd spend all of your money sooner.

I know what you mean. I wish I had too. I ordered eggs online for buff brahmas. They are beautiful but not one hatched. Where'd you get yours?

Found someone on Craigslist selling 2 English orpington hens!! Yeah!!! Want to get them so badly. But I can't get it because I don't have a safe area set up to keep them. BUMMER!!!

I'm starting to itch for some new birdies. And spring. My poor girls are looking a little rough, seems they decided to start molting in the middle of all this nutty weather.

Still got my rooster. The TSC lady never got back to me... and another person interested was WAAAY out there distance wise. I can't travel that far. I'm 6 1/2 months pregnant and starting to feel like a manatee. Manatees and small vehicles do not combine. Ofcourse this morning he woke me at 6:30 with endless crowing, so time is a ticking. He's been SO good the past two weeks, not a single crow.

Calling the TSC lady one more time... see if she still wants him. Poor fellah, he's starting to look so nice too.

I have found a large percentage of the people that sell chickens know nothing about them. My first chicks were sold to me as Araucana but were EEs. I even asked, are you sure these are not Easter Eggers? Of course they all have tails. I was sold mixed chicks that were supposed to be pure breeds and when I showed the guys pictures, he said 'Nope thats not right, oh well'. Another guy sold me Serama eggs that were really game hens. I was glad I had given them away instead of selling them. I drove an hour to pick up EE eggs and they started smelling and oozing by day 2 of incubation and infected my more expensive eggs. The only other person I have bought eggs from seems much more honest but every other chick was born with curled toes and dislocated knees. She said 'Yeah that happens a lot. I just cut off their heads'. I can't do that. I have 3 gimpy chickens that I will be taking special care of for a really long time.

So, I have not found one reliable person within driving distance. It is very frustrating. That's why I came on here. You have to be very careful. My friend bought a laying trio from a lady near Mongomery. The hen just died and it looks like Mareks. Mareks infects as a chick so this hen has had it since before my friend got her. The lady made a big deal about vaccinations and medicated feed being so wrong. Now my friend has to pay the price. It is highly contagious and her property will have mareks on it for a long time. She will never be able to sell or give away her chicks to anyone.
