TSC just made me furious!

I'm standing at the chicken pen, some other folks waiting as well. The guy there helps two people, then another associate asks him to count the silver laced wyandottes for the Chelsea store. I ask him if I can get 4, since I got 6 last week, he says no. I'm like ok, I'll get 6. He walks off to tell the person on the phone how many they have and he comes back and sticks a 'SOLD' sign on the bin. What the heck? I spend A LOT of money at that store... that's not how you should treat a regular customer (or any customer for that matter). I was there before the phone call..... So rude!

I would be furious too! Did you talk to the manager?

Okay, another newbie question. If I wanted to buy a few chicks and stick them under my hen who refuses to NOT be broody, what would I feed them? Would the chicks eat the same fermented feed I give all my birds or do they have to be fed something different and, if so, can the "mother" hen eat what they eat since they will be in a small enclosed area together away from the main flock? I have heard you can take a broody bird and slip some babies under her at night and she'll raise them so I thought that might be an option but I want to make sure I don't screw it up. Has anyone been successful doing this?

Tomtom, I am so sorry, but I think you should call and talk to the store manager. And it they can't make it right, then I would call the Corp. office.

She will not accept chicks unless she is already broody. You would feed a mother hen and chicks starter grower feed.

that's crazy! I called Bessemer this morning.. even though I really should not get more lol. I tested DH's patience enough with getting 6 more when I knew I'd be out of town for almost 4 days (and boy am I behind on the thread

) . Anyway they said they had Cornish X (AGAIN?!) red pullets and assorted pullets. After the assorted pullets all being barred rock last week it was a little easier not to drive 25m to go see lol

Oh, she's broody alright.  Every night I go to tuck them in, she's in a nest box.  Every morning after I feed them, I turn around and she's back in a nest box.  Every time another hen or I get near her she screeches. I keep trying to get her to come out and go onto a roost at night and sometimes she will but most times she won't.

Sorry I misread that. Yes most likely you can sneak a few chicks under her at night. Make sure they are just a day or two old. As long as she is separate from your other birds, you should be fine.

My chick has this stuff on its butt. Is it pastey butt or the umbilical cord? It just pooped so whatever it is isn't blocking that.

Heard lots of bad and no good about TSC and their chicks this year.

Apparently they're having serious issues with bantams this year... folks complaining about them dying a bunch.

My LF are doing fine so far. I'm just counting my blessings, be glad to have some birds that will up the egg numbers in 20 weeks and just order my 'wish list' birds in September or something....

I didn't... I wanted to, but did not want to cause a scene. Honestly, I was suspecting he WAS the manager.

I've thought about calling the corp. office, but I just had to cool down I was so mad.

I've worked as a manager for years, so I know customer service and THAT was not it. He wasn't the friendliest fellah to begin with, but that's just downright rude. A customer who is there in person should be helped before someone saying over the phone "Hold those chicks, I'm on my way" or whatever it was. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

I thought for a split second about driving to another store, but I wasn't going to risk some wild goose.. er.. chick chase for nothing. Just glad with what I have and I'm just going to order some chicks come September. I really need to lay off the chicks anyway... I mean, I'm 33 weeks along, I *really* need to start considering that

Don't want to spend a few days in the hospital with a bin of chicks left at home.

i'm no doctor, but i would think you could have chickens in the delivery room with you.
