ALABAMA!!

Last year I planted some strawberries in a pot. it's finally produced some strawberry. However, one of the chicken learned how to dig through the pot for ripe strawberries.

I have also grown a white peach tree in a pot . The same chicken went into the pot and ate the peach tree and then had herself a dirt bath in the pot.

My muscadine are always eaten by wild birds.

And the few figs that was produced on my fig tree was eaten by my dog.

However, I have a nice persimon tree that produce a lot of fruit each year that I do get to enjoy.

I got tricked into biting into a green persimon. Since then I have been nervous about trying a ripe one.

The one I have is an domesticated Japanese variety called Fuji. It's larger than the wild, almost seedless, and best of all it's not astringent at all.

I really want to add a persimmon to the garden.

The kiwis are planted against the chicken run, so I hope the do go nuts

Anyway..

No babies from the Duckgloo. I checked today and they're all rotten eggs. No dead babies, they failed early in development.. so just stinky eggs with a little bit of veining. It think it just got way too hot.

We have another nest in the shade, checked on that one. No funny smells, took one egg inside and candled it. Small air pocket, some veining, dark mass.. so looking good. She started sitting later than the others, so we have a little wait to go.

Mamascovy promptly got into a fight with the other girls, trying to protect her babies. She's a keeper *laugh*

They have persimmon tree at Home Depot in Pelham. Unfornately, they aren't cheap.
Sorry to hear about the duck eggs. Was hoping to see baby duck pics by now. Hopefully this other batch will hatch.

The kiwis should go crazy, they grow about 6 inches a day. My dad's out grew a tree and then pulled it down...

I'm upset at Home Depot. They've got all these stupid tags bragging about how 'this tree resists pests because it's treated with neonicotinoids'. Stoopid. If it's bee polinated, why would you treat them with something that kills bees?

But, I'm getting over it, since it seems all nurseries use the stuff.

I wanted a native one, hoping it would do really well... but an asian one could be nice too. I know Petals of the past carries them too, I just never drive out that way.

Also, I opened about 20 rotting duck eggs... It is AMAZING that each one smelled different

Some were runny, some looked like cooked scrambled eggs.. There were two that looked recently laid, 3-4 days into development. Those didn't reek. But there's no way I would have figured out that they were viable without opening them. The float test failed... everything was floating
