Hello fellow Alabamians,
I am new to chickens. I've only had my 2 RIRs, 2 Dominickers and 2 BOs (i think they are BOs) for about a month. I was getting 4 to 5 eggs daily until I moved them into their new coop Saturday afternoon. Since, I've only been getting 2 a day on average. Is this normal after changing their living arrangements? If so, when will they pick it back up? Anyway, I'm addicted to them! I would love to have a couple of blue/green egg layers if anyone has some close to Gadsden for sale.

It is normal for a let up but this extreme heat will have more influence on their laying. Mine have slowed scince this last heat wave. Once they get acclimated to the change they will be ok.

Thanks Roy,
I have put a fan on them and put storage box lid filled with water in their pen (about an inch deep). They seem to like splashing in the water. I Hope they pick it up soon.

Andy, are you free-ranging? If so, make sure they have plenty of shade, and some ice cubes in the water (for drinking) is nice as well. Oh, and

Not yet, but plan to real soon. They are in a 12 x 9 ft old metal roof truss thing. It used to be over my deck. I removed the legs, put tin on one side and wired the rest. It is in the shade of several trees. They will have just less than a 1/4 acre to "free range" when I can afford the fence. Thanks for the welcome!

Anyone have any day old chicks available or will be hatching in the next couple of days? I have a broody hen that needs some babies. She keeps trying to set and won't go out of the broody stage. The eggs she is trying to hatch now are unfertilized. I need someone close to the Florence/Athens area.
