ALABAMA!!

I have six large fowl, wheaten Ameraucanas from good bloodlines and one Easter Egger hen who is a wonderful old gal from my first chicks from McMurrays years ago. I am near Moulton in north AL. I have some eggs in the incubator at the moment. Some are due to hatch in a couple of days ... wish me luck, this is a new venture for me.

New to the group, hoping to find other Alabama chicken-crazies! We live near Lake Guntersville State Park in the NE corner of the state. At the moment have Polish and Sex Link, but hoping to add several other "fancy" breeds to the flock soon.

I have some five week old barred rocks and buff orpingtons all feathered out, no need for brooder for 4.00 each if anyone needs some. They are out of good stock, not hatchery stock. I'm in the Cullman/ Eva area.

What kind of coop does everyone here have? I'm still trying to get something drawn up because my Father-in-law comes in town this weekend. I've been leaning toward covered in back and sides and have the front chicken wire. I've also thought of just going ahead and closing the front but making it double doors that can stay open during the summer and could be closed during the winter. What works in our area for everyone? Thanks

We have a movable coop. It is on wheels.

It has a wire floor. We covered that with a tough plastic netting so it is better on their feet. The poo just falls through. We move it about once a week to another area. At the same time, I put new hay in the nest boxes. Every once in a while we hose it down. Cleaning takes little time this way. I used to have a stationary coop. It was a lot harder to keep clean. With a movable one, it is sooooo much easier.
