Alarming behavior from Silkie

So, I'm happy to report that it seems she's just broody and acting especially weird :)

She's been enjoying her food and the great outdoors (when we force her out of course :D )

Thanks everybody!

Ernie is acting very strange this afternoon and we're really worried about her. She's been in the nestbox and is just kind of spinning in place with her head in the bedding looking very unsettled. She's also had kind of odd looks recently - nothing really quantifiable, she just looked odd (kind of like she was losing her marbles a little bit). Any ideas? All of the other chickens are fine. How long do silkies live? Ernie is going on 4 and I'm just wondering if it's "her time". Thanks for any help or suggestions!

Paul

Could it be wry neck?

Oh, glad to hear! Now you give me hope next time Aurora goes broody, maybe she will be less wierd since with your silkie the behaviors changed up a bit. I gave Aurora some serama eggs...so I'm hoping she can finish out her sitting now that she's got something!

Aw - what a cute Silkie you have.....! Maman and Tweebie are both white... I would love some other colours.....

Maman abandoned her eggs yesterday - unusual for her.... I found them cold in her nesting box and disposed of them - she is busy eating, drinking and dust bathing now She has a chick of three months of age and is spending most of her time playing with it - she ignored it while she was sitting on her latest clutch of eggs....typical Maman - it is very cold here at the moment so it is better that she doesn't hatch right now - Tweebie is about to hatch and no doubt Maman will try to take over once the chicks are here! ( Maman is Tweebie's Mom)

Ah - the pleasures and intricacies of owning Silkie's!

Not sure if you were talking to me, but lately Aurora is all about taking breaks when I get in the coop and doing my stuff. She keeps sticking me with her eggs, and if she takes too long, I just bring them inside and stick them in my electric blanket! I return them to her later, but I'm thinking these ones may not hatch. They are probably just for our learning experience considering the get moved around so much and go through such temperature variations. My Aurora is only 9 months, so even though she is so broody, we might just have to go through this learning experience before we both figure it out! Yeah, I think trying to hatch eggs in the dead of winter is probably just a bad idea!!! Who knows though, maybe its possible!
