Alaskan New Chicken Owner

Hi all,

I've wanted chickens for years, but we had to get the backyard squared away first as I own and hunt with my Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. Now the dogs have a yard on one side of the house and we just brought chickens home today. 5 of them. I've taken a chicken workshop from a local gal that's awesome and doing a lot of reading so I think we are ready.

wish you would post photos of your Chessies, I have never seen one out of a dog show.

Chewbacca is the dark one and Brownie is the light one. They came to work with me last week.

! Great to have you aboard! It might be worth your while to see how your Chessies do with the chickens. The big lab in my avatar (plus a second lab and a golden retriever I have) are greatt with my chickens....they are curious about little chicks but totally ignore than as chickens. They even keep predators at bay! Good luck to you!!

Thanks all for the welcome! Chewy has already killed a few chickens when he stayed at a friends house for a few days. He is very determined and skilled at doing so. Brownie really couldn't care less, but it makes Chewy crazy to see her out there by the chickens. We have the chickens on one side of the house and the dogs on the other. They each have their own yard. That way no one is stressed.
