Albino call duck hatched.... weird

Julybabies016.jpg

I had this hatch out of some trout eggs I bought!! Is it a throw back? Its as cute as can be and tiny compared to the others. I need to grow it out to see what it grows up to be. It walks tall like a Runner!

Kate, your duck definitely looks albino to me. Even in the photo its eyes look red. Not to mention it seems a LOT paler than a normal yellow duckling should be, especially it's pale little legs! Ducklings aren't typically born white or such a light yellow, right? They start out as a bright yellow and turn white as they age. So I would say... albino for sure!

If it is a true albino, it may have sensitivity to sun exposure. If you decide to keep it, you might want to check into any special considerations that may apply.

Not sure if Albino-ism is different in birds, though, than mammals. Just a thought

He/She is super cute though! I think I would be excited!

Good luck! You could name him Powder.. as in the bad 90's movie about an albino guy.

Yeah if the movie holds true I'll keep him away and hidden in lightning storms... is it bad that I know that movie too! LOL

There are albino frogs, and snakes so i may be surprised and will keep HER housing needs in order. Now that genetically will baffle me like the lilac calls I am breeding, UGH another project! LOL LOL

Haha.. I originally wrote about the lightning and hiding, but wasn't sure if anybody would even know what I was talking about... glad somebody else remembers random low-budget (horrible) movies

Kate, I'm betting you have a throwback in genetics somewhere. That surely looks like a White.

I've seen it and it's barely younger than me, is that bad?

Getting a white throwback isn't that unusual. Many ducks could carry the recessive white gene, but you'd never know it till they "hook up" with another carrying the same gene. Gofasterstripe, did you hatch those from trout runner eggs? Where did you get your eggs?

I don't know a lot about the albino gene though. I'd love to see some clearer pictures, and keep us posted!

Looks just like my duckling out of my pair of white calls, unfortunately it made it only a week.
