yes white do come from some carring the white gene.......the old ones had all pink eyes, i have not seen any for many years, heck they may have even been white meat, not sure never butcher any back in those days.

I might have one.

I got some eggs that were supposed to be red split to fawn for DD and hatched out 3 red, 5 brown and one white (so no telling what the genetics are as I clearly got some eggs from the meat pen).
The white has red (not pink) eyes and squints against the light of the heat lamp but otherwise seems as healthy and active as all the rest. All of 2 days old as of today and pretty teeny so I'm not positive but I can try to get a pic that shows the eye color.

FAWN IS A RECESSIVE OFF OF BROWN. THUS THE BROWN BABIES​

JJ I had had it explained to me that since both are recessive colors I would only get more recessives, so mostly red with maybe a couple of fawn. But I will take YOUR word for it. I'm glad to hear it, DD was pretty disappointed in the plain little browns. And a really bad hatch from them too. 9 out of 25 eggs - they weren't mailed either. The other eggs I had hatching (in the same incubator at the same time) did much better.

So I guess we'll keep the females from there and breed them if they may carry the recessive. Thanks, was going to invite them all to dinner.

WHILE I'M NOT THE GENETIC ROCKET SCIENTIST ALEX IS GENETICS SHOULD WORK TO PRODUCE A % OF ALL RECESSIVE, A % OF SPLITS, AND A % OF NORMALS. ALSO FAWNS ARE DIFFICULT TO GET GOOD HATCH RATES ON AND SEEM MORE FRAGILE IN THE BROODER AS WELL--- AT LEAST WAYS FOR ME THEY ARE? I GET SUPER HATCHES ON MY EGGS BUT MY FAWNS DONT HATCH NEARLY AS WELL AS OTHERS AND AS STATED THE CHICKS SEEM MORE FRAIL IN THE BROODER... I BELIEVE THERE MAY BE OTHER UNDESIREABLE TRAITS LINKED WITH THE GENETICS OF THAT COLOR SUCH AS CONGENITAL BIRTH DEFECTS OR PERHAPS A LETHAL GENE? IN MY EXPERIENCE WITH THEM THATS WHAT I NOTICE ANYWAYS

ALBINO IS A VERY GOOD POSSIBILITY REALLY IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT, FAWN IS ACTUALLY A FORM OF ALBINISM IN THAT THEY ARE BROWN BIRDS THAT LACK THE BLACK PIGMENT... ALBINISM IS TECHNICALLY A LACK OF COLOR. IN THE CASE OF FAWNS THEY "PARTIAL ALBINO" IN THAT THEIR SKIN LACKS MELANIN OR DARK PIGMENT... IT HAS THE RED PIGMENT BUT NOT BLACK--- KINDA LIKE PRINTING WITH AN EMPTY BLACK INK CARTRIDGE. THE OPPOSITE IS TRUE OF SILVERS OR BLUES AS SOME CALL THEM --- THEY ARE LACKING RED PIGMENT OR ANUERISTIC. TECHNCALLY BOTH ARE A WEAK OR ABBERANT FORM OF ALBINISM. SAME MAY BE TRUE OF REDS BUT I AM UNSURE--- THEY MAY BE THE FAWN VERSION OF TIBETANS OR RANGE BIRDS?

SO IF YOU HAVE ALL THESE LIL ALBINISTIC MUTANTS BREEDING TOGATHER IT STANDS TO REASON YOU MAY GET A TOTAL ALBINO? THE INGREDIENTS ARE CERTAINLY THERE

River any update on the little ruby eye.

It's feathering out. At that pincushion stage where the wings have feathers and the rest looks like a pincushion. For a minute this morning I thought I saw a dark pinfeather coming in but when I picked it up it was poo

Seems like any time that one stretches out it has to find a fresh poo to do it in - what is it about white critters??

It's one of the smallest - but not THE smallest. Eating and growing. I still can't manage to get a picture that shows the red eyes. When DH gets home I'll see if we hold it side by side with a normal if that makes it easier to see the red of the eyes. They still aren't pink, they're ruby.

IF it doesn't grow any dark feathers, what would you like it bred to? It's hatch-mates are red and brown (presumably the brown is split to fawn or red) and I've got totally unrelated browns, golds and normal whites.
I guess we'll all hope that it's male as that will give more eggs to play with.
