Hi folks,
I am new to this entire subject and looking forward to moving FINALLY!!!! back home and I will have 4-5 layers. Am I excited? Does visions of cute hens following me around wearing brightly colored henny-penny aprons sound serious?

Ha ha ha ha.

Okay here is my Question:
I've been reading on crushing 'clean' egg shells back into the feed. WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO CLEAN OUT THE ALBUMEN so my chicks do not become ill?

Thanks much!

I let them dry for a couple days then lay them on a baking sheet in the oven for a little bit until they are really dry then crush them.

I don't do anything. I just crush them and throw them back into the kitchen scraps I feed my chickens. Haven't had any problems yet. I don't see there being a health risk really that would necessitate doing anything to them. I crush them cause I don't want them to get any ideas about eating eggs.
