Too soon to tell cockerel vs pullet? I got a group of six chicks from Alchemist Farms. 2 are sexed pullets, 1 I’m pretty sure a pullet and then these three are through me off. #1 and #3 are the moss eggers. I think #3 might be a pullet and #1 a cockerel. #1 is smaller than #3 and it’s comb and waddle developed very fast/red compared #3. #2 is a double laced barnevelder and the comb is very red and bigger compared to its other counter part which makes me believe this one is a roo. Any advice would be greatly appreciated if anyone ordered through Alchemist!

Hello!

I’ve never ordered through Alchemist, and neither have I ever had any of these breeds, but I believe that either your suspicions are correct or they are all cockerels. It is still too early to tell for sure. Your #3 may just be a late-developing cockerel. How old are they exactly?

Id say #1 for certain is a cockerel. The leghorn mixe pullets, atleast here, tend to develop decent combs and those don't always tell a good story - as is the case with #3 Although cockerel is likely (combined with the waddles) I wouldn't say for certain.

Same goes for #2. Does have cockerel characteristics, but minimal waddle development and not showing signs of cockerel saddle or hackle feathers. Too early to commit.

They are about 8-9 weeks

I also have chickens from Alchemist farms. I agree 100% first two are Moss Eggers, third Barnevelder. They are almost surely all boys.
