Alfalfa Powder for darker yolks?

Does anyone use alfalfa powder? My girls can't free range and even wih fodder, greens and weeds... I have a hard time getting those orange yolks. Anyone have any experiences? I'm hoping the powder form is safe and just as good as any.

Never heard of using Alfalfa powder.

I don't use Alfalfa powder, but I do give my chickens Alfalfa/grass during winter season when greens are scarce.

I scatter some over shavings in coop or under the raised coops.

Also check that your feed ingredients include Marigold.
Corn also adds color to yolks. Check to see if your feed is corn free.
My feed includes corn, marigold and kelp.

I feed this to Pullets and Hens with a container of Oyster Shells for the Calcium.

Yes, it is safe, and alfalfa usually has 16% min protein, so that is good.

I’ve hydrated the alfalfa cubes and pellets for horses (100% alfalfa, nothing else). Then mix into wet feed. They never have liked it straight. It will help darken yolks.

however, in warm weather, grow marigolds and toss them the heads either whole or broken up. This also darkens yolk.

red peppers are good -sprinkle on wet feed. Or cheap ground paprika.

don’t use turmeric though. I did that once as I had some I didn’t need and it will color the yolks, but unfortunately it also gave the eggs a distinct off flavor I did not like.

I mix alfalfa pellets in with the fermented chick starter base I feed everyone, and I do think it helps with yolk color. When I used a feed previously that contained marigold, it made the yolks bright yellow instead of orange.
