I'll be curious to see if their yolks orange up any from it.

During the summer months they free range and we have the most beautful orange yolks..plenty of bugs and greenery

but since snow fall they have been on their feed with kitchen scraps and a couple handfuls of dry cat food every day......So oh boy oh boy when I brought a sheef of the alfalfa there was much clucking and discussion............lol!

I'm trying the cubes. They are hard so I've been putting them in water-around 3/4 to 1 cup. They flake apart and the pieces are small. I got a big(50 lbs maybe??) bag for just over 10 bucks.
So far my chickens are not to crazy about them. I then threw some out in their run and I notice that they are whittling them down. It has thawed here and there is alot of moisture in the ground and I think they are falling apart a little at a time.
Sometimes they have to git used to something before its a big hit.

Funny you mention that about the orange yolks because I feed mine alfalfa (baled only not the pellets) alot and they really love it and put about a 1/4 of a new bale in their pen last week and the eggs I made breakfast with this morning had almost halloween orange colored yolks! I had no idea the alfalfa might be the reason!..learn something everyday on this board!!

mine always clean up after the goats. they get on the pallets after the goats are gone and eat between the cracks. plus, scratch and kick it aside that falls on the ground.

Wow, My DH wants me to put my chickens into my goats pen and now have a good reason too. How old do they need to be to eat alfafa. Are your goats picky too, mine will not eat anything that touches the ground!
