algae growing in water system...help

I am liberal with bleach at a cap per gallon. It evaporates when fully dry.

I got the impression that the chlorox/bleach was to be added TO the drinking water. So are you saying that if the chickens drink all the water with the chlorox added, it will dry and discourage more algae???? I don't let the bucket get empty . . .

Bleach is toxic and shouldnt be consumed.

Bleach level that controls algae is well below that which is acutely toxic to chickens. Concentration need not be as high that used in a swimming pool for control of algae.
