algale in water

i change my girls water at least every 3rd day if not more. my problem is i keep getting green algae. the water is not in the sun.
why???????????

Please... change your water daily. This is the most important basic thing you can do for your chickens health.

Absolutely, you have to change the water daily, and I have a brush that I use once a week to scrub the dishes to keep the green stuff away. Clean water is very important to healthy birds as DL stated.

Something that will also help detour the growth is apple cider vinegar. I just put a splash in my gallon waterers. I was having the same problem and even changing them daily, it kept growing. The ACV worked great.

Just make sure when you're buying it that it is actually apple cider vinegar, not apple flavored vinegar (I didn't think they made such a thing till I saw it on the shelf.)

That is why you have to clean your waterers too. If you leave the algae that has grown on your bowls, it will come back really fast, even if you change the water every day.

Scrub them CLEAN at least once a week with 1 pt bleach to 10pts water. Lighter cleanings in between.
To deter the algae growth I recommend the apple cider vinegar too. But make sure it has 'the mother' in it. You can pick a bottle up at the health food stores and just add a bit to the water everyday, which is also great for digestion! But do not use ACV if you have a metal waterer
