We made a 13 gallon water barrel that have plactic lines going to water cups but they keep getting alge in them and stopping them up. Anyone have suggestions on what to put into their water that is safe and can stop the alge growth?

I don't know what would work like that and also be safe for chickens. But if you can cover or coat the lines, and maybe the tank if your lines come from a tank, the dark will keep the alge from growing.

Adding copper to the water will prevent algae. Pennies would work if you can find old ones. The newer pennies are not really copper. A copper fitting from the hardware store could also work.

I also agree with the copper comment. If you have some extra electrical lines with copper in them, I strip the copper out and add a rolled up line to the barrel. Unless you are adding copper sulfate to the water, I wouldn't worry about liver issues.
