Ok...I'm going to make this quick. I do an online school, and there isn't many examples for math, and the teacher is useless.
I'm trying to solve the equation: 12x + 22 = 10x – 4, solve for x
I simply don't understand how to solve this, my sister says it is 28, since 12+22=34, 10-4=6, and 34-6=28, but she isn't sure and I'm not either. Any help would be SO appreciated.

You have to have all the x's on one side of the equation and the other numbers on the other side and then solve for x...

12x + 22 = 10x - 4
subtract 10x from each side -10x -10x
that gives you 2x + 22 = -4
subtract 22 from each side -22 -22
that gives you 2x = -26
divide each side by 2 x = -13
substitue you answer back into the original equation to check your answer
12 (-13) + 22 = 10 (-13) - 4
-156 + 22 = -130 - 4
-134 = -134

Pull your x terms to one sine and non x terms to the other side and combine. After you do that your problem should look something like this: Ex. 5x=25 you would divide everything by 5 which would leave you x=5.
