Ali James' Garden Chickens

Oh my goodness, life got so busy for me and all of a sudden it has been five months since I posted.

Anyone out there?!

My little flock are all very happy and settled. The pecking order is solidly established, all the girls are healthy and regular layers.

I now have to go catch up on @BY Bob 's thread... About 600 posts worth!
She's back! Hey Ali! Glad all is well.

Quick question before I do a proper update this afternoon - can I give my girls the grass clipping from the lawnmower bucket?
I know this is a big no with horses as it gives them colic - will it be alright for the chooks?

If it is freshly cut, it should be ok. The problem is if it has been sitting around for a while and gone mouldy, that’s no good. I’ve used grass clippings as deep litter and made sure I spread it out well so it could dry.

Thanks Lozzy, my girls love nothing more than kicking a pile of leaves all over their run, they will be thrilled with a new heap to dig through!
You just need to be careful that they are not too long. The ladies will eat some and you don't want crop issues occurring because they can't clip off bite sized pieces.

I have been known to toss the clippings in my run as well. Just be smart.
