Alkaline well water

Yes it does...chicken pH is what I'm researching right now because I use the Kangen Machine but also have a Berkey and I've been giving the chics water from the Berkey. This is my first time with baby chicks so I'm looking everything up. My baby chick passed away 2 nights ago in my hands. Watching like an overprotective hawk now...Neutral to slightly alkaline 7.4 is what they recommend for water pH.

You might not need calcium supplementation with water that hard!

As mentioned.... it really depends on why it's so high. The rift lakes in Africa can get that high. The ph is very stable. Life thrives in them and the locals have been drinking it for thousands of years no problem.

These aren't those caustic flamingo soda lakes. They are inland freshwater oceans with every form of life abounding in them.

"The lake's water is alkaline with a pH around 9 at depths of 0–100 m (0–330 ft).[14] Below this, it is around 8.7, gradually decreasing to 8.3–8.5 in the deepest parts of Tanganyika."

pH can do some weird stuff chemically, lock away nutrients and minerals from being bio available. But if the birds drink the water they are probably safe. Might put out two bowls of water, one high pH, the other rain water or from a safe source, and see if the birds avoid the high pH water.
