All About Wing Clipping

I have a few chickens. I have been thinking about clipping my chickens wings, for many reasons. I have my chickens in a coop big enough for them all, but I want to let them roam my yard. Last time I tried letting them roam one got on my fence and another kept hiding behind a log. I had some questions.... If I clip their wings how far with they fly? Is there someone I can call to clip them sorta like a vet? I have a pond, deck, and shed. Do you think they would go behind the shed, in the pond, or under the deck?...

I am pretty sure I have a Barred Rock and 3 Easter Eggers

Also if I let them out for a couple hours while watching them will they let me put them away easily or will the run? I have to put them in the coop cause of racoons and more...

I've never clipped my chickens wings so I can't help on that totally. Mainly it depends on how you clip. The more flight feathers intact the more they can still fly. As far as where will they go, everywhere is the simple answer. If it isn't fenced off, they will eventually get there. They should return to the coop on their own as the sun sets. As long as they've imprinted the coop as home.

I have clipped my 4 of my hens wings, 2 i just clipped one side and they never left the yard after that,the other 2 could still get out.So i clipped the other side and i have no more hens fly away,as for the shed,pond and deck they may go under the deck and poo on it.They will probably go in the shed to check it out,and for the pond as long as they can't get in i would not worry about it,i had a hen jump in my pool,she is fine and they don't sink.

I have a pond built into the ground and a turtle lives in it... I don't think they would go in but not sure, and they will most likely come from under the deck if the go right? How high can they flutter once one wing is clipped? Will they most likely be easy to put to bed and lock them up?

when you clip one wing it will mess up there flying skills,so they just give up when you clip 2 they can fly about 60 cm high.They should come out from under the deck and should go to the coop when its dark.

No, you can clip wings yourself You need to talk there wing, get scissors and cut the big flight feathers shorter. maybe cut off 3/4 of each individual feather, don't get to close to their skin. do this to either one wing, or both wings. No vets needed

That is how i cut and it is works vary well but flipping the hen upside down only works with good hens.
