Bless your heart! Before I was an Avian Keeper I worked in Wildlife Rehab. I was spoiled there too though because we had a few local vets that would help us occasionally with things like x-rays and simple procedures. I know you are doing all you can for this girl, so kudos to you! I have my fingers crossed she will pull through, it's a great sign she is still going! I think she will definitely earn her Miracle name yet. Is she eating anything for you?

No, not a thing. She may still be rather stressed now that she is in captivity. Thank you.

I would not pull the blood feathers yet. Way too much at this stage of things. Keep her comfortable, as stress free as possible, and apply the Betadine a couple times a day, or three times a day, as needed. If she gets to flapping her wing, causing bleeding, you can use corn starch to help stop the bleeding. Give her time to regain her strength. If she gets to flapping her wing too much, let me know, and we can deal with that at that time. Letting her regain some strength is vital at this point.

Oh no, I'm so sorry. Sounds like you definitely did your best to help her, though. Poor dear. I feel so bad for the females during breeding season. They really get the crap beat out of them sometimes.

I just read this thread and right now I want to go out and get rid of all my drakes. I know that is not a solution since mine are domestic and I only have 4 (maybe 5) drakes total with 20 females. But even so, what mine put my females through is bad enough. I can not imagine what a wild female surrounded by males must have to endure.

I do know in my heart that you now have a little wild duck angel with you who knows that you did everything you could to help her. And, that she will be around in spirit for a long time to come.

You have earned a special place in the souls of all ducks and have been an inspiration to all us here who love our birds and want them to be safe and healthy.

I'm so sorry things turned out this way. It's heartbreaking. I'm glad there was intervention for her and she had you to look after her to try to make her comfortable so she didn't have to go through what she did any longer.
