All but one gone😔

Very sorry to read of your misfortune. I feel your pain!

Started out with chickens roughly four years back myself. Began with 15 TSC chicks, then after a few months, added 31 hatchery chicks.

In retrospect, there is no substitute for actual experience. Reading and vids are a good start, access to a resource like BYC and it's members is great, but still no substitute for actual lived experiences.

My experiences with predators included and owl attack that partially blinded one of my hens, some crafty possums eating eggs, and a sustained encounter with a group of nasty trash pandas, who wiped out my flock, from 46 adult birds , down to 5.

Tough times...but I learned a huge amount, rebuilt the flock to 40, reconfigured the flock, built a nice fortress of a coop, made other improvements and kept a good attitude. None of it possible without my wife!

So, soldier on! Ask for advice. And enjoy the experience and your flock!

Using the dry hatch method I hatched 9 chicks in a simple diy incubator (5 welsummer crosses 4 leghorn crosses) Leghorn eggs aren't as thick and lose more moisture. The darker eggs will hold moisture better so if any of you decide to use the dry hatch method please add water on days 18-21 All my dark eggs hatched

Hatching chicks is an option but I don't know where you'd find a hen with chicks sorry! Chicks can't be mixed with your hen until they've been fully integrated
