All chicks put them selves to bed except 1.

After moving them outside I always have one that 1) I have to put to bed or 2) she's sitting at the coop door waiting for me to say goodnight while everyone else is already roosting. I like to think she just enjoys my company

We let ours out to free range about an hour before sunset and as it get dark they put themselves away, no chasing. Chicken are great that way.
This is our first flock and they have only been out in the coop for a week. We just gave them access to the run on Thursday. So they have been enjoying their days foraging and haven’t wanted to go to bed. We have been having to go out and put them to bed.

So last night was their first time doing it themselves!! It was awesome to see them starting to figure things out

I can see this chicken becoming that 1 chicken who wants to be put to bed. Her name is Jewel and she is my 10 yo daughters chicken and has been VERY spoiled so far in her young chicken life.

That’s ok though, if she does, then my daughter will just have a nightly chore of going and putting her chicken to bed :). Heheh

They will eventually go into the coop on their own if you wait it out. We usually close up the coop between 8p-9p - early on when I was having to put Arya in the coop nightly, my husband was working a 24 hr shift and I got held over on my shift so I didn't get home till 10p. Low and behold, everyone in the coop and Arya is passed out on the floor near the door. She woke up when I closed their chicken sized door and popped up to the roost as I opened the human door to double check everyone was inside.
