All I really need to know, I learned feeding cows

This is wonderful! Thank you for sharing. I have said it over and over that grandparents are a huge part of who we are if we are lucky enough to be able to spend time with them. That is why I am very careful what I tell mine brood of grandchildren, because I want them to remember me with love and care. And I think they will.

These kind of memories are exactly what I want my kids to remember. I love my granny and papa so much

I'm late to this post but thanks for making my heart and soul leap with Joy! How beautiful that was and what a writer you are.....

I'm sorry I never knew my maternal grandpa, but my granny talk me so many of the same lessons....Isn't wonderful....

How terrific you have ties to the same roots and the same place......

Bless you for sharing this!

You just made me think of my grandmother who always had a pound cake in the oven when we came over. She was so sweet and kind. Thank you for bringing her into my thoughts this evening.

My grandma was a "pound cake" woman, too. Used fresh eggs from Grandpa's RIRs.

Can't you just taste a bite of that good ol' pound cake?

I'm glad you posted AND published this. You are only a few years older than my eldest DD, and both you and she are responsible and caring individuals. HA to those who say that your generation is awash! And, look at what getting back to roots teaches us. Our animals teach us so much about how we are to live.
BTW, since my horses and chickens ALWAYS have food and water, I don't always feed them at the same times each day. With my horses they WATCH for me for their sweet feed--WHICH THEY DON'T really need. I use this to train them to pay attention to me, which they do when I school them. Of course, I realize that horses are little bit brighter than cattle, even though my cousin who kept cattle told me that her cows would squish her against the fence in an attempt to love on her!
Thanks again--the post was lovely.
